2010 Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) Conference
Principles of Actinide and Radiochemistry
May 31 - June 4, 2010

This five day conference emphasized both actinide chemistry as well as fundamentals of radiochemistry. Overview of the conference included basic nuclear concepts, discovery and development of the isotopic concept, use of the chart of the nuclides and radiometric separation strategies. Specifically concepts of sample preparation for difficult to process matrices was also reviewed. Additionally, separation of actinides included concepts consisting of formation complex coupled with ion-exchange separation and oxidation / reduction methodologies. Nuclear instrumentation functionality and nuclear detection limits was also discussed in detail. The format of the conference was open and flexible and many interesting questions were formulated and discussed.
